Skinner and Reinforcing Effort

In chapter 8 of Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that works, is a rubric that students can use to show the correlation between effort and achievement. In this particular activity the students are the grade themselves on 5 different categories based on a rubric given to them to the teacher. This is connected to Skinner's behaviorist theory because it gives them a positive reinforcement for giving more effort. The information also acts as an immediate positive reinforcement of behavior. These are the reasons I believe the behaviorist theory connect with this weeks readings.

  1. The method you mentioned that is explained in chapter 8 of Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that works do connect with the behaviorist theory. The rubric plays a very important part in the method. It helps the students measure their efforts. The response to the result is basically what reinforces their behavior. The method basically describes operant conditioning in behaviorism.

  2. The strategy that allows for students to visualize the relation between effort and achievement. It shows them if the amount of effort that they need in order to achieve success. This strategy can be effective and change the mindset of students in the classroom.
