Constructivism in Practice
In this weeks resources there were many different methods that are useful in constructivism. One of the methods I explored this week was project based learning. Like the title suggest this method uses projects to help the students learn the information. This is directly linked to constructivism because the students are having to construct the project and they are having to construct the answers to the main question through research. Another method that I explored this week was wikis. These are created by the students directly. These are great examples of constructivism because again the students are having to construct the wiki. Not only are they providing the information they are also having to do the research to make sure the information is accurate.

Hello Thomas,
ReplyDeleteI will be teaching biology next year and I am looking forward to using what I have learned about constructivism/constructionism theory and project-based learning in particular in my classroom. Authentic learning activities such as lab journals, projects, portfolios and graphic organizers should provide ample opportunities for my students to demonstrate content mastery, proficiency in 21st Century Skills and utilize multiple intelligences.
The wiki’s keep coming up. I think a lot of us are interested in developing more learning around these shared sites.
ReplyDeleteI keep talking about it in our discussions, but I still have not logistically drawn it out for myself. I would like to team up with another teacher in the same curriculum and draw up the expectations, along with a rubric.
I also love wikis! I've tried using them in my class for individual students but I have not yet come up with a plan to use them with a pair or even a group of students because of the lack of control I have over them! I find that in project based learning, it's always difficult giving up the control because unless you have a really great plan, things can fall apart fairly quickly!
